How do you know if something is digital or analog? Well, digital communication uses separate pieces of data that are easier to work with and send. As for analog communication, it uses continuous signals to help carry out information.

Here are some examples of digital communication and why:

  • Video calls

These send images/sound as small packets of data that are then changed into a code made of 1’s & 0’s and send it all in separate pieces.

  • Electric clock

An electric clock never stops, the second hand is always moving.

  • Email

Emails are made up of letters and data that are turned into a code of 1’s and 0’s which then makes it easier to store/send them over the internment.

Here are some examples of analogue communication and why:

  • Body Language

These are continuous signals that show meaning without words. And there are an infinite amount of ways you can express how you feel with it.

  • Art

It uses continuous forms/colors to express emotions and ideas, and there is an infinite amount of ways you can do it.

  • Vinyl Records

Vinyl records hold music in the grooves of the disc. The grooves match sound waves equaling infinite listening.

Although it seems like an easy concept there are some things that can be described as either analog or digital depending on how you view them.

Here is an example:

  • Tv’s

Analog:

Old tvs get signals through antennas so then they display them as waveforms.

Digital:

A modern TV that picks up digital signals and displays them as clear images.
